The Prophet Obadiah

Accademia Gallery, Venice, Italy

The Latin spelling of the prophet Obadiah is Abdias. The "D" is missing from this scroll, and there does exist a Coptic saint named Abias, but it seems much more likely that this Abias is simply a misspelling for the prophet's name.

The right index finger appears to be pointing up, to Heaven. This would be appropriate for Obadiah, whose brief prophecy promises God's vengeance on the Edomites.
